Designer’s Dream Home – East Meets West

Perched on a hillside overlooking the Monterey Bay, this residence with its Asian-Modern exterior at first appears calm, organic, and neutral. But as you enter through the stunning cinnabar front doors flanked with handsome one-of-a kind iron door pulls, the calm exterior transitions to a dramatic interior of persimmon-colored walls and black lacquer cabinets serving as a backdrop to the owners’ collection of modern art, Asian antiques, and comfortable overstuffed furnishings.

After 25 years of designing for others, Heizman finally realized her dream—designing and building her own home. Heizman now says that after three years on the drawing boards and one-and-a-half years of construction, she can truly empathize with her clients as she prepares them for this arduous process. Would she exchange the experience for the world? Never.
